The children of Platt demonstrating

The children of Platt demonstrating over plans to build on the local greenbelt. Rupert is pictured on the right holding up a banner.

The boys, together with other village children, wrote a letter to the Bishop of Rochester who was supporting the planning application, to protest that the greenbelt was their future, their green lung and no place for development. They arranged to meet the Bishop before he took a service at the local church. He subsequently wrote to them saying that he could not support their views.

Tonbridge & Malling Council and Kent County Council supported the children's efforts. The appeal went to the Secretary of State who eventually refused planning permission.
